HCDB OIA Diving Champion!

OIA Medal OIA-Medal-back (BJ)  Myer 04-2009

Brandon, or BJ as he is commonly called, has been a part of the HSDB diving program since spring of 2004. When he was younger, he only participated on a seasonal basis, when it was warm. Now that he has gotten older, he competes interscholastically, participating in Oahu Interscholastic League (OIA) competitions, invitationals, and the Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Championships.

He trains year-round now and has begun to achieve a high level of performance, doing the most difficult dives we’ve seen in high school competition in Hawaii.  He has plans to up the ante next year by learning world-class level dives.

This season, BJ broke two long-standing records: the OIA Eastern Division record, which stood for 18 years until he broke it on January 28th, and the OIA Championships Record, which stood for 25 years until he broke it on February 6th.

BJ will travels to the Big Island at this week, February 11-13th, to compete in the HHSAA State Championships, where he hopes to defeat defending champion Spencer Madanay of Punahou School.
