| Happy
New Year, and welcome to the revitalized HCDB website! Expect to
see current information posted on our website on a regular basis. HCDB has been impacted by the current financial crisis that is affecting Hawaii and the rest of the country. We have been cautious in our expenditures to make sure we have sufficient funds to support our student programs. However, we will be losing three positions from our Diagnostic Team, two Resource Teachers and the School Psychologist (currently vacant). We are sad to be losing Inga Park-Okuna and Laura Loomis, resource teachers for parent education and visually impaired students. Statewide evaluation and technical support services will still be maintained with the remaining two Resource Teachers. Another impact to HCDB will be the organizational separation of the Diagnostic Team and Educational Interpreters from the school component. The Diagnostic Team and Educational Interpreters will remain with the Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support (OCISS). The school component of HCDB, including the dormitory, will come under the supervision of Honolulu District, Kalani Complex. Rest assured that the educational programs at HCDB will still be available to all students across the state. These administrative changes will have minimal impact on student programs and day-to-day activities of the school while broadening our base of support within the Department of Education. The coming year will be full of many changes and challenges. I will do my best to keep you all informed and updated. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Here’s to a healthy, happy and prosperous new year to all of you! |
