| More About Doreen |
| Speech-Language
Pathologist. Diagnostic Team member, responsible for
evaluating
speech-language/communication needs of Deaf/hard of hearing, blind, and deaf-blind students referred for evaluations statewide. I provide statewide consultation and technical assistance to related professionals, para-professionals in education and health related programs. I have been at HCDB for 17 years, and have been working in deaf services for 33 years. Before moving to the DOE, I served as a program level administrator at the Department of Health's Children with Special Health Needs Branch. Throughout my 16-year DOH career I was actively involved working on behalf of and with Hawaii's Deaf Community. I served on the original committee that created the statewide center concept for deaf and blind students. My part was |
|
to ensure that staff
speech- language
and audiological service providers met national and local standards and
were nationally certified and/or state
licensed. Since the committee's inception, I helped change our name from Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind, to The Statewide Center for Students with Hearing and Visual Impairments, to Hawaii Center for the Deaf and the Blind. Since beginning work at HCDB, I have served 8 years on the Hawaii State Coordinating Council on Deafness as an interested community member and helped develop most, if not all, of the current Deaf Community events enjoyed by our students. |
