I assess academic skills
for deaf students throughout the state, usually as a part of an action
to establish or maintain a student's eligibility for Special Education
services. I also teach various afternoon classes, such as
Health and P. E., and am a part of special projects such as website
rennovation and curriculum development.
In addition to working on classroom and school development projects, I
also am very involved in student extra-curricular activities, having
been Prom advisor, Yearbook Advisor, Academic Bowl Coach, and Diving
Coach over the 7 years I have been at HCDB.
I became involved with
the Deaf community in 1987 through a relationship I had in college
while in California. In
1990, I became an ASL/English

interpreter, and worked
within the Los
Angeles Unified School District for several years as an
interpreter/aide and as a long-term sub. I earned my Master's
and Deaf
Ed Teaching Credentials from CSUN in 1996.
I fell in love with Oahu
when I was here for a diving competition at UH Manoa in August,
1999. I checked out HCDB, found that they needed teachers,
and moved here 25 days later! since moving here I have
learned to surf, have started weightlifting, hiking, and biking, and
generally enjoy a very active life.
When I have tired myself out, I enjoy spending time at home with my
four cats, playing scrabble, and watching the great TV shows that have
recently sprung up.
The last two years have been great as I bought a house with
my partner, Siew, and I coached my
first-ever AAU national champion and senior national finalist in diving!
