AUGUST 2009 - HSDB TECHNOLOGY UPDATE

THE 5-MINUTE UNIVERSITY PLAN & TECHNOLOGY:

At the beginning of this school year, during a light moment in our staff training, our Principal shared about Father Guido Sarducci (a character from Saturday Night Live) and his Five Minute University plan (which basically says lets teach you NOW what you will remember five years after you graduate - which should take five short minutes).

Thinking about this education plan and technology, I tried to think - what are the two most important things you can learn about technology? My wife even helped me with one – know where the on/off buttons are (I actually bought a "Smart Phone" once and did NOT know where the on/off buttons were). I believe number two is – know where to find help.

Each of us are at different stages of learning about technology, computer programs, etc. (including me!). I believe the three great sources to get help for technology are:
1) a computer program’s Help section (or an equipment’s instructions manual),
2) the Internet (try Google your problem),
3) someone who knows more than you (about a program or type of equipment).

If you can remember these two things, I think you'll have a great year with technology. ☺
